10 WEEKS TO GOLD COAST
The nations Capital, Canberra, was my home for 7 years. Canberra can be a cold place with temperatures during winter dropping well below zero. There is a saying in Canberra that the heaters are turned on on Anzac day (25th of April) and are turned off on Remembrance Day (11th of November). Having said this, I can recall firing up the heater on Christmas day.
So you can well imagine, Canberra is a place that can truly test a runners ability to tolerate a long cold winter. It would not be uncommon to run for an entire 2 - 3 hours in long tights, long sleeve shirt, jacket, gloves and beanie.
I will always remember a run that I did on a cold, frosty winter morning. The fog was so thick that I could barely see 6 feet in front of me. As I did on the majority of my morning runs, I ventured into the bush and up a long gradual track to a ridge that separated two mountains. On this particular day I did not clear the fog until I crested the top of the climb.
